Alternative Energy Resources Essays - 1104 Words

The energy that is used today comes from fossil fuels, which is a nonrenewable limited resource that will eventually be used up. Alternative energy sources such as solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and wind energies can be used, to conserve the planets limited natural resources. Alternative energy is the use of another energy without the burning of fossil fuels and break up on atoms. Solar energy can be used to operate cars and provide electricity for homes and businesses. Hydroelectric energy can be used to provide electric power to small towns and cities. Geothermal energy can be used to heat buildings or water and to power turbines to make power. Wind energy can be used to pump water and generate electricity. Solar energy is of†¦show more content†¦The most common type of hydroelectric power comes from using a dam on a river or lake. Water is discharged from the reservoir, which spins the turbine, which activates a generator to get electricity. Hydroelectric power does not require a large dam. Some hydroelectric power plants just use a small canal to channel the river water through a turbine. (Union of Concerned Scientists) Third, geothermal energy is heat from the earth that is used directly as hot water or steam, or used to produce electricity. Geothermal energy is contained in underground reservoirs of steam, hot water, hot dry rocks and hot spots. Geothermal hot spots are volcanic features which are found all around the world. Basically a hotspot is an area of reduced thickness in the mantle which transmits excess internal heat from the interior of the earth to the outer crust. These hot spots are well known for their unique effects on the surface, such as the volcanic islands of Hawaii, the mineral deposits and geysers in Yellowstone National Park, or the hot springs in Iceland. These geothermal hot spots can easily be used to generate electricity. (Alternative Energy Sources) They are used at electric generating facilities, hot water or steam extracted from geothermal reservoirs in the Earths crust is supplied to steam turbines at electric utilities that drive generators to produce electricity. My talk today is about energy especially about energy demands. What is energy? In physics, energy is defined as the capacity to do work. This capacity is very important to our daily lives, business, and education and even for the national security. This is why it is so important for world to meet the growing demands of the energy. According to Global future studies research stated that there are 1.3 billion people are living without electricityRead MoreAlternative Energy Resources and Human Dependence on Oil Essay1016 Words   |  5 PagesAlternative Energy Resources and Human Dependence on Oil Introduction The modern world is fuelled by oil (Youngquest, 1998). This reality has brought tremendous changes and developments that is continuously transforming the modern period, changing its lifestyles and economies in the last 200 years. However, these changes do not only paved for modernization and development, but it has also paved for the environmental crisis that the world is now facing (Bodley, 2008). Environmental crisis refersRead MoreAlternative Resources for Energy Instead of Fossil Fuels Essay544 Words   |  3 PagesAlternative resources for energy are being used instead of fossil fuels being used .Fossil fuels create greenhouse gases which accumulate in the atmosphere and harms it. Some alternative options for getting energy are using solar, hydro, and wind power. Not only are these alternatives better for the environment they can still be used when fossil fuels run out. Solar energy is one of the alternatives to fossil fuels. Solar energy is used to create electricity in two ways. The first process is usingRead MoreEssay On Alternative Energy Resources1714 Words   |  7 PagesAlternative Energy Resources At the rate that planet Earth is going, it will be destroyed by humans. Over time, the United States of America has developed new ways of producing electricity to keep the country running. However, time has revealed to citizens that the current, majorly-used resources cause a lot of issues, such as pollution and inconvenient economic trends. Therefore, it is time for a change in how the country manufactures electricity compared to how it is produced today, so that ourRead MoreAlternative Energy Resources : Renewable Energy Source848 Words   |  4 PagesAlternate energy resources are being developed to compete against the fossil fuel power stations. Fossil fuel such as coal and oil are drilled and shoveled out of the ground and then processed to be turned into electricity. Problems with fossil fuels are that they produce hazardous air emissions and give off by-products that will harm the area. Some well-known alternate renewable energy resources are wind, solar, and hydro power. The se are all sources that are in abundance and will be around forRead MoreNatural Gas as an Alternative Energy Resource Essay476 Words   |  2 PagesNatural Gas as an Alternative Energy Resource Natural gas is one of many energy resources being sought out as an alternative to some of the more pollutant geologic resources used abundantly today. Natural gas is being raved about due to how much cleaner it burns than other traditional fossil fuels, and it is becoming one of the more popular forms of energy because of this trait. It is a colorless, odorless fossil fuel, also known as methane. Todays uses for this resource are heating, coolingRead MoreFossil Fuel Resources For Alternative Sources Of Energy Essay1827 Words   |  8 PagesDiminishing fossil fuel resources have prompted scientists and researchers to look for alternative sources of energy. Though several alternative sources of energy have been identified, generation of energy using combustion of fuels still remains the dominant source of energy globally [1]. In search for alternative fuels, biofuels have shown promising results to generate useful energy. However, efficient atomization of some high viscosity biofuels to yield maximum useful energy and minimise emissionsRead MoreImplementation Of Geothermal Energy As An Alternative Energy1459 Words   |  6 PagesTitle : Implementation Of Geothermal Energy As An Alternative Energy AHMAD HAFIZUDDIN BIN ISMAIL (EC15132) FIRDAUS BIN MAT SHUKRI (EC15133) MUHAMMAD SUHAIMI BIN MOKHTAH (EC) AMAR FAISSAL BIN KAMARUDDIN (EC15134) Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering UNIVERSITI MALAYSIA PAHANG (UMP), 26600 PEKAN, PAHANG, MALAYSIA Abstract This report presents an alternative energy is any energy source that from fossil fuel. We need to turn to alternative energy in general. Firstly, we were in dangerRead MoreScience Debate : Alternative Energy1157 Words   |  5 PagesDebate: Alternative Energy is Better Good morning/afternoon fellow peers and staff members. Today, I am going to prove how alternative energy sources are better than conventional sources. Some people don’t know the difference from alternative and conventional energy sources.Conventional sources are sources that are most common and have been traditionally used in the past. Alternative sources are the more eco-friendly source which makes our world a better place to live in. Examples of alternative energyRead MoreBiomass Energy In Africa Essay1542 Words   |  7 Pagesdifferent type of experiments William conducted in search of possible alternative energy. Deforestation is a growing problem in Africa due to the household communities’ dependency to use wood for fuel to prepare their daily meals, or use wood to create charcoal and sell in order to buy food for their families and survive. For most households in Africa, the use of wood to make charcoal is their way of life. Without this resource, it would ma ke it difficult for them to survive. Their dependency to
